Great voice and great style! Completely original, melodious and sonorous and with high aesthetic values. Its a huge pity that in today's time of self promotion by artistes themselves and pushy hardsell, the tuneful strains and authentic expertise of Pandita Malavika Kanan's music is somewhat lost to the present generation of listeners. Why else is so little of her music available in the market or the internet? its not as if she wasn't performing or being recorded as a revered guru of the much hyped ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata where she taught, trained and performed since its very inception in 1978 until two or three years before her sad and very recent demise ot the SRA itself. The least the SRA and the AIR can do by way of appreciation of this rare nightingale of Bengal is to publish as much archival recordings, and I'm sure there are plenty as she had an impressive repertoire of ragas and old compositions learnt from her father as well as others, so that quality music can be brought before the listener today.
