Captian Sam was a leader of the Yosemite Indians. Captain Sam was married to Paiute Susie Sam. Susie died in August of 1903. Captain Sam had a very long life and died in the 1930s.
Captain Sam was a Yosemite-Mono Lake Paiute.
He and Susie had several children. Leanna, Louisa, George, Mattie and Pete (Pete died very young).
Sisters Louisa and Leanna Sam married Paiute Bridgeport Tom and had many children.
The family were very prominent basketmakers in Yosemite National Park.
