About me

My Name is Donna....most online friends call me Red...Yes as you can see I have red hair.. so it wasn't a real creative nic name...

As for the fiery disposition attributed to someone of my coloring... I feel I'm quite easy to get along with...Well most days anyways..

I consider myself more  of a storyteller than a singer... my music tastes are wide and varied.. I attribute that to my recently departed parents who shared a great love of all kinds of music with thier kids...  I started singing online as a way to communicate with the outside world when I became the primary care giver to my daughter  who was struck with a chronic illness..I have made many friends through this theraputic outlet... there is some amazing talent in this world that unfortunately we will never hear on the radio... I truly enjoy listening to other performers ... each singer brings thier own life experiences in to the mix.. often, I hear a whole new meaning in a song...and WOW.. are there some amazing original works out there!!!

I record on my computer...and there is much I have to learn in that area... as for vocal technique... well I am too damn old to learn what is the correct way of doing things.....I just sing from my heart.. my covers are just bits and pieces of my life experiences tucked in to someone elses words and music...if your looking for something that sounds just like an original you will be dissapointed...

Red's Music- covers
This file contains my covers My grandmother told me when I was a child if you have a song in your heart you must sing it....doesn't matter what other people think..... For most of my life I've kept those words close to my heart...I do hope that somewhere amongst these pages you find a song that touches your heart.... Thanks to each and every one of you who encourage me along the way!

Hi Red, I have a question. I heard your version of 'When you love someone' by Brian Adams. I'm desperately looking for that karaoke file, but I can't find it anywhere. In 2 weeks I have to sing that song on the wedding of my friends. But if I don't have this file we need to choose another one, and we don't prefer that option. Do you have it? Can you mail it to me? Best wishes, Annemiek (The Netherlands)

DJ RAS MATURE writes:
Since the early to mid 90’s, hip-hop has undergone changes that purists would consider degenerating to its culture.  At the root of these changes is what has been called “commercial hip-hop".   Commercial hip-hop has deteriorated what so many emcees in the 80’s tried to build- a culture of music, dance, creativity, and artistry that would give people not only something to bob their head to, but also an avenue to express themselves and deliver a positive message to their surroundings..

What does the term “commercial” mean?  It can take on various meanings, but in essence that term is used to label artists who have alienated parts of the hip-hop culture in their work.  The High and Mighty, a duo from Philadelphia signed to Rawkus Records, summed up what commercial hip-hop is in their 1999 single release “The Meaning”.  Mr. Eon says:  “…they’re tryin’ to turn hip-hop to just plain rappin’/let the poppers pop/and the breakers break…”

But the disenchantment with artists who don’t appreciate hip-hop as consisting of emceeing, breaking, graffiti art, beat boxing and dj-ing is not new.  Underground artists, predominately hip-hop purists, have lashed out at biters and perpetrators for many years. For example, in 1989 3rd Bass released their first album, The Cactus Cee/D.    Throughout the album, MC Serch and Prime Minister Pete Nice scold the commercialized booty shakers like MC Hammer for corrupting hip-hop, particularly on the track “The Gasface” they specifically call out Hammer for his antics.

Inside the album jacket, Serch sums up hip-hop in ‘89:  “There was a time when nothing was more important than the New York Rap Scene.”  It’s dilluted, but not divided.”  To hip-hop afficionados, Serch’s quote sounds like the equivalent to a Vietnam soldier’s letter home.  Obviously, the group saw the possibility of the hip-hop culture being tainted.
