Lets use a common idea, a car.

We have the RIGHT to own a car. It is property. We do not have to register it or be licensed or have insurance. We can drive it around on the ranch or the race track if we so desire and we own the race track, or get permission from the owner of the race track.

Driving on public roads is a PRIVILEGE. We have to register the car, have insurace and be licensed, obey the speed limit, and not drive under the influence of alcohol or other substances.

We are not ENTITLED to a car if we cannot afford one. Nobody owes us a car. We are not entitled to drive on public roads. Nobody owes us that privilege.

This can be applied to many other things, like the right to keep and bear arms, the right to health care, the right to food and shelter, the right to clothing. These things are rights, but we must purchase them on our own. Nobody owes us a .357 magnum if we cannot afford it. Nobody owes us health care if we cannot afford it. Nobody owes a house if we cannot afford it. Nbody owes us a meal if we cannot afford it. And we do not have a right to carry a concealed weapon in public if we don't qualify and get a license. In the U.S., we are not entitled to anything. We have to earn everything, and we have the right to earn what we want to have. We are not entitled to a job, we have to earn a job and earn the privilege of keeping the job. We are not entitled to a paycheck, we have to earn it. But we have the right to keep our earnings and do with them as we please. Nobody is entitled to a cut of our pay, nobody is entitled to a room in our house, nobody is entitled to our car, nobody is entitled to our groceries. And doctors/hospitals don't owe us care and treatment.

The confusion between these three ideas, rights, privileges and entitlements, is a pet peeve of mine. I really wish people would understand the difference.
