WatercolorPainting
When I retired, I thought it would be fun to try my hand at painting...and I thought Watercolors would be the easiest. Wrong ! The secret continues to elude me, but I keep trying various techniques ... perhaps one day it will all come together. Meanwhile, I humbly show my work so far. Thanks for visiting - Mike

Roses Portrait.jpg
The watercolor of these roses is mine but not the composition. The drawing (18 in. x 12 in.) was done using an illustration in an instruction book on how to paint plant portraits.

Beached Boat.jpg
This one started off on a scap piece of paper when I was rubbing the tip of a watercolor pencil on the paper to sharpen it. I just kept going and then added water. One of those "happy accidents"

Virginia Whitetail Fawn.jpg
This little fawn was in a field near my home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. No, didnt paint this in the field. Instead used my digital camera for a reference photo and painted this one with a combination of watercolors and watercolor pencil on 300 lb. rough.

Mountain Home.jpg
This is typical of the scenery near my home . This particular scene however is not my home, but is instead a photo in a Watercolor Book. I made a grid of the small photo in the book, then drew it on a larger grid (20" x 30"). It was just an exercise and admittedly appears a bit mechanical to me. It was still fun to do and my wife likes it so I guess I'll keep it :))

Springtime Cardinals_mikehudson.jpg
An early (3 yrs ago) attempt at drawing with watercolor pencils. They are a little tricky but fun..just draw, blend and then paint over the entire drawing with a fine brush and clean water.

Hi Mike, I just wanted to stop by and ask if things are going alright.   Well, I also wanted to see if you had any more paintings you posted too. Happy  Hopefully, you are working on one because I really like your work. (I sound selfish!) Wink  - but I have had a chance to see more of your photographs. Take care Sincerely, Catherine

Thank you for your lovely comment on my painting, The Islet!

Your watercolours are very  pretty indeed, and you have achieved distance and depth in your paintings!

Watercolour is much more difficult than oils.. I just get to splosh the paint on and see the magic happen with oils! don't wait for your next life.. do it now! I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
